Just got back from Haiti couple weeks back. Momma & Daddy said I need to get back down here and help since they’re practically neighbors to where I was raised. What a mess. And then I come home to hear all this whiny crap about health care and big government. Waah, waah, waah. Wanna know what small government and no health insurance looks like? Go down there to Haiti. It’s just a peach pie o’ paradise since they ain’t got no government intrusion, or regulatin’ to get in the way of citizens rights and all.
So Jus’ a few observations…
Careful ‘bout spreading stuff about a thing without lookin’ at it first hand. “Facts” that them turds at Fox, or Rush, or Beck, or Hannity or them saintly tea-baggers are spreadin’ aren’t really factual. You should take a look here:
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr-3200/
Government’s actually gotten smaller over time if you count up the number of federal employees against our ever-changing population of the country. No pattern to historical growth between different administrations. Fed, State, local – gotta take all three into account because as them things we count on get reduced, like road or highway maintenance (my favorites – ain’t nothing like a smooth ribbon of rock to ride my wheels on, and I like the idea that helped pay for it), them reductions gotta be made up for somehow in other ways. The need don’t go away. The burden just shifts.
Government all grew under George The 2nd, shrunk under Clinton, grew under George The 1st, shrunk slightly under Reagan, grew under Carter, stayed ‘bout the same under Nixon/Ford. Grew/Repub, Shrunk/Dem, Grew/Repub, Shrunk/Repub, Grew/Dem, No-change/Repub. Not a real consistent pattern there is it? If they was dogs, they’d all get their noses rubbed in it.
You’re already legally required to have auto insurance to ensure that someone else don’t have to pay for your accidents. Deciding to only get or pay for medical insurance only until you need it is a little like whipping out your cell phone to buy auto insurance after you’ve already gotten in that fender-bender. That’s why it’s called insurance.
So follow the logic for bit here:
- Them doctor creeds require health care to be rendered to everyone. Think of emergency rooms – car wrecks, serious illness, cancer, heart problems, other stuff. Not talkin’ ‘bout that little cold or infection that we all waive off.
- That care costs money. Salary, equipment, medicine, chemicals, lights, and building maintenance – my favorite.
- Because care has to be given, but the injured or infirm don’t have to pay, the cost of that non-paid-for care gets divided up against people and plans that can pay.
14th Amendment don’t apply, because this is a federal law, and not some cracker state law. Maybe you recall that the 14th was a result of the Civil War where a number of states didn’t like their slaves being called “equal” or whatever their excuse was. Makes more sense to cite the 14th to gripe about auto insurance, because auto insurance requirements make US citizens to get insurance at the risk of forfeiting their privilege to drive.
Voting… the deal and finagling thing probably ain’t much different than any other bill that has deals & finagling going on. Nothing really new there. And you did get to vote on it when you voted for your congressman and senator who represent you – that’s how representative governance works. You vote for them, they make the laws.
Paying for it… yup, that’s us. Less than $300/yr for every US man, woman, and child for the next 10 years if our population doesn’t grow; if it does, then it’s less per person. What’s the price of major medical “incident” that wipes out a family’s financial resources? I’m guessing it’d be more than $300 a year.
Oh yeah, English teeth… well, if they have “gorgeous” teeth, then there’s not a basis of comparison that’s valid. But nonetheless, Snopes.com has a good discussion about that particular myth:

This is for Sazaran and Nomz, a couple a probably great mommas who may someday make great wives.
So this is just a commentary on a rant that Saz had about men. Open disclosure: I disagree with the message you sent there. But let me offer a different perspective to help you, if you’re objectivity and maturity can accommodate the help. And I’m really talking to both Nomz & Sazaran (yeah, I know Saz wrote the post).
I don’t know what you’ve gone through with your marriage(s). Clearly, they didn’t work. Wasn’t there, ain’t gonna cast judgments. So I'll accept at face value that your partners in that contract didn’t hold up their end of the agreement. You got some sweetheart little girls, Nomz, and your boy looks like he’s gonna make the girls swoon someday, Saz - I can't imagine looking into their eyes every day and not committing to them to having a family to grow up in (not a finger-point at anybody, just an observation).
But I’m just gonna address what you said, not history. Don’t know the hows and whys, so I’d be groping in the dark. There’re some pretty obvious and direct statements you make, Saz, but there’re trainloads more of not-so-hidden subtext that roar out at you.
The world’s pretty screwed up right now. The generation of rising adults is selfish to the core. They blow off their parents and couldn’t care less about the generations that came before them and what they have to offer in lessons learned. They want everything now and don’t care how they get it. They think they know everything, and when told otherwise, are too arrogant to accept the truth. And the girls specifically? They look for ways to flirt and flaunt what they got, dress to flash as much as they can, and speak and act more suggestively and provocatively than they should (sometimes they even cuss!). Now that was an important point, you’d be tempted to shut down your ears right now after reading that and give your temper a bit more rein. Don’t. Wait for it…
I think you started your rant with the intention of targeting it at just a few buttheads. But as you wrote, a deeper sentiment emerged to show you really felt that way about most guys - not really just a few. “I've come across an alarming number of slacking, whining, good-for-nothing men who seem to have lost the definition of what it means to be a man.” If you're quantifying your encounters as an "alarming number", you're not really feeling it's just a few, it sounds like you REALY feel it's "most".
“I don't really know what happened to this generation of men, but they have really dropped the ball.” That one too sounds like a pretty broad, sweeping condemnation beyond just a few, you’re characterizing an entire generation.
“…why women feel the need to use their sexuality to get what they want- most men are ASSES…” Yeah, I know, previous post, but again, reinforcement that you don't really feel only "a few" are the problem.
Don't know how you can put that out there and not think that when most guys read that there hackles ain’t gonna stand on end. When you start a tongue-lashing throwdown like that, it's a bit of an eyebrow raiser to shake a finger at someone for swingin' back. Yeah, your pot got stirred. But you piled the wood, soaked it in gas, set up the cauldron, filled it with water and pretty hot spices, supplied the ladle, and sparked the kindling. Whadya expect is gonna to happen? If you don't like your pot stirred, don't start cookin' in a place you invite guests and tell ‘em THEIR cooking sucks.
“I know, I know, both parties can be responsible for this decline … But, men, be the bigger person!” No! BOTH need to be the bigger person. It’s a partnership – the “two becoming one” and all that.
“You would balk at the amount of women I have talked to that are abandoned by their husbands/father of their children, today.” Well, you’d balk at the number of women that have abandoned their husbands and kids. The three closest friends I have in the world (and a fourth good one), their wives decided they were owed a better life than they had. And I know all of them to the core of their very being, and I hope that I possess the character I merely see in them everyday. Apparently a better life for those girls meant better than having men with great stable jobs, better than having fathers who took the kids all day on a Saturday so that momma could have some “me-time” (which in two of the three cases momma’s “me-time” equated to hook-up time with some someone else). For those three closest to me: eight kids all total. All in grade school or younger. Two found some guy on-line. All four thought they each “needed to find herself”, that being a mother just wasn't them, that being a good wife to a good husband was trivial and demeaning to their true potential.
I know not a single guy (not one personally, anyway) that has ever left his wife or not pulled his load in the family. Are they out there? Of course! They’re not friends of most of the men that I call friends. Do I believe most women are like those I described? Hell no. Not at all. And those men don’t either. It's Carly, Kari, and Christine who are like that - that's their names. And neither those men nor I would condemn girls or women their age as defining how the rest of ‘em are. They are like themselves and no one else. Which leads me to my 2nd observation…
“For some reason we are attracted to the bad boys. The jerks. The assholes. The ones that treat us like crap.” (yeah, I know that was Nomz’ comment) You know something? You catch seafood when you go fishing. You don’t like your scenery? Change your vantage point or perspective, because the scenery won't change itself. But don’t marry ‘em (the bad boys, jerks, and assholes), and wonder why it sucks.
Now again, I know these are your experiences. You lived ‘em. I have no reason to doubt they are what you observed and felt. But you know what else? They don’t represent the majority of men. And it sounds like you wanna find a good one. And they’re out there. But you need to get rid of that bile that continually refills you, because as much as you might think you’re putting on your game face for the prospects, you’re probably not even aware of the other messages along the tone of those words that’ll chase off the good ones before you realize what you might have had. Which leads me to my last observation (and you gotta wait for the ending past this observation)… You need to figure out what you really want, be consistent about it, and make sure you're offering the same in return. If what I read reflects how you really feel, you ain't there yet.
“You're married now; the days of bachelorhood have ended. You don't need to sit on the couch every day, all day watching football, basketball, hockey or whatever sport may seem more important than the attention of your family.” Saz, you might want to revise your previous social-work-family balancing requirement for your new guy "list", the three can’t be equal. Family comes first as you point out here. You tell some boy he can have all three, and he’s gonna start doin’ the math to make sure he’s getting all three in equal measure, and that means the family isn’t really a priority. Food for thought.
“get their crap together…”
“get off your ass…”
“Grow a set of balls…”
“Efffing…” (yeah, I know, that one wasn’t in this post, but you’ve used it before, defended using it, and it’s really nothing more than a ball-less way of saying f*** when the sentiment is there in your heart, but you convince yourself you get to walk away clean because you didn’t put the “f” & the “u” & the “c” & the “k” altogether in a single word).
Brace yourself: you gave some "momma" observations, let me give you one of my own momma’s observation she gave me that was more’n deserved and one that gave MY kids as well: you kiss Jesus with those lips there, Miss Potty-mouth? You want a Christian guy to take serious interest? Clean up your language.
So here’s the finale. That 3rd paragraph waaaay up there? Here’s the original text:
"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."
- attributed to Peter the Hermit in a sermon in 1274 (the year 1274) I worded it a bit differently at the top, but the gist comes through.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Socrates or Plato said something similar to ol' Pete (debate amongst bigger brains than mine over which one said it first). We've been bitchin' at ourselves for millennia. Set yourself apart, be different, see what kind of attention you get then.
I hope your life starts goin' better for you. But find a pastor or shrink to help you cope with your male issues, cuz right now with what you’re advertising, you're losing market share.
